Flop, Turn & River
Understand the three postflop streets and how new community cards change the strength of your hand.
Introduction
Postflop poker begins when the first community cards appear. Each new street provides additional information and can dramatically change hand strength.
The flop
Three community cards are dealt simultaneously. You now know five of the seven cards potentially available to your final hand.
The turn
A fourth community card is dealt. Draws can improve, previously strong hands can become vulnerable, and the pot is usually larger.
The river
The fifth and final community card is dealt. There are no more cards to come, so draws are now either completed or missed.
Re-evaluate every street
Never assume your hand has the same value on every street. Board texture, opponent actions and new cards should cause you to reassess your relative hand strength.
